I'm not from Boston, but after golfing at Mount Hood, I can understand why the locals call it a "hidden jewel." Visiting from LA and being not familiar with the area, we took a chance and drove to the suburb of Melrose to golf here.
Here's a rundown:
Staff: I talked with the people in the pro shop, the lady running the snack bar, the cart girl, a groundskeeper, the rangers, and the starter. I mean it when I say that EVERY SINGLE ONE of those people were friendly, kind, helpful, and authentic in their conversations.
Food: Smash burger and fries. Need I say more?
Golf Course: Great condition, greens were well kept, fairways were good, and it was challenging. Enjoying the scenery was a good trade off for a bad shot. Some of those trees actually saved me from a worse shot. We only played the front 9, but I'm sure the back 9 was just as nice.
Overall, go play this course. I apologize now to the locals who want or keep it a "hidden gem" but hopefully more outsiders like me will get to have the same experience as I did.
Good Muni Course, pace of play was slow, but that is expected for a Muni. Staff was really nice and loved thwarting about your round and how you did. The Par 3’s we’re all 200 yds or more. Par 4’s are score-able and you can get after them. I would come back for sure.
A gorgeous place to walk.
Excellent local 18 hole public course. It's well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful, and it's a lot of fun to play. The course itself has lots of elevation changes and is moderately challenging. The tenth hole has a great view of the Boston skyline. I've played here several times and will keep coming back for a consistent good round of golf.
We used Mount Hood for our annual company golf outing and we were super impressed. It was a lot of fun all around!
The new simulators are fantastic. Great experience.
Pretty terrible experience. We’ve been playing here for years and the course was in the worst condition we’ve ever seen. Tee boxes were dirt, no grass on the fairways. Pace of play was okay, though they had us start on hole 10 for a Saturday round of 18. Worst of all, they now charge $12 for a push cart, which is highway robbery. Not impressed with the new management.
The staff/starter is very rude when we had to hit provisionals off the first tee. The use of profanity when trying to hit is not a nice way to start a round.
Always busy. Great muni.
Amazing condition considering spending restrictions and amount if public play.
Great condition 👏 Fun track great par 3'
6 of them but long 185 200 yards
Looking forward to playing it again soon. ⛳👍 …
